My first entry on Life of Dad was comparing my kids to an angry and violent dinosaur. It might have not been the best analogy, but sometimes I feel my kids are getting ready to pounce on any opportunity they see fit. Recently I had another “Jurassic” experience with my youngest daughter Jordan. I was taking a few things inside from my deck since it looked like it was about to rain. The girls were running in and out of the house. They almost knocked down the screen door so I shut the sliding glass door so they wouldn’t cause any damage. Wrong move!

As I am gathering things from the deck I heard the dreaded “CLICK” sound. I didn’t have to turn around to know what had happened, but I did anyway. I looked through the glass door and there was Jordan with a smile that turned into a devilish laugh. Not sure why I tried the door since I knew she locked it. How did she know how to lock the door? Just like the first article I thought to myself “Clever girl!” She was very proud of herself and her older sister wasn’t helping the situation either. I am not going to say it was going to start raining, but the clouds were getting dark and that was the whole purpose of me bringing things in from the deck.

I told Jordan to unlock the door, but she just scampered off and was laughing. I couldn’t help but laugh. I was expecting them to bring me a list of demands written in crayon stating a later bed time, chocolate for breakfast, and a pony. They both came back to the door and looked at me with smiles and were tapping on the glass. I asked Lily to unlock the door and she did. Whew! I dodged a bullet there. Things could have gotten ugly. There could have been a diaper drop (click here to understand what a diaper drop is), the fridge could have been raided, or it would have started raining. Luckily I got out (or in this case in) unscathed and I put this experience in my memory banks and made sure I always have my keys on me in case Jordan the Velociraptor is waiting to strike.
