Mark Buehrle is a husband, a father, and a Major League Baseball pitcher.  Buehrle spent the first 10 years of his career with the Chicago White Sox, where he became only the third pitcher of all time to have a no-hitter, a perfect game, and a World Series title with the same team.  Hall of Fame pitchers Cy Young and Sandy Koufax are the only other two baseball players that have ever done this.  Buehrle is also known as one the best fielding pitchers in baseball having been awarded with three Glove Awards.

Just a few days ago, Buehrle was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.  Mark and his wife, Jamie, have two children (Braden – 5, Brooklyn – 3).    Mark Buehrle sat down with Life of Dad to discuss fatherhood, baseball, and what he does during the off-season.

Only 23 Players have pitched a perfect game in MLB history.  What are your thoughts about being a part of such a small club?

Great accomplishment.  Never thought it is something that I would be a part of.

What do you miss the most about your children when you’re on a road trip?

Everything.  The day-to-day activities, cute things they say, watching them grow.  I do not miss the bickering between them however.

What do you like to do during the off-season to relax?

Go up to our property on Louisiana, Missouri and just be outdoors.

What is the one moment that stands out in your mind about the World Series victory in 2005?

My save in game 3, running on the field after the last out, and then seeing my picture on a Wheaties box.

Thanks to you and your wife for being animal rights activists.  How many pets do you have at your house, what are there names?

We have 3 vizslas (Diesel, Drake, Duke) and 1 American Staffordshire Terrier (Slater).  Duke requires most work, but they are all four different personalities. Very lovable and great dogs.

You’re a World Series Winner, a Gold Glover, and one of the best pitchers of the last decade.  But can you cook?  What is the best meal you make for your wife?

I love cooking. That is something I really look forward to during the off-season.  My wife likes my BBQ.

You must be proud of many of your career accomplishments…what are you most proud of in your personal life?

My family.

Favorite musician?

Garth Brooks and Zac Brown Band

Favorite TV show?

Breaking Bad or Shark Tank

That’s Mark Buehrle, with my daughter, Babs, when she was just under one year old.
