My son playing with my iPad...I have 200+ of these...

Sitting around the dinner table, sharing a yummy meal with my aunt, my son sat biting the middle of his spaghetti noodle, and then sucking the two halves into his mouth.  He was happily plowing through the plate, when he suddenly stopped.

He looked up at my aunt and said “Do you want to know everything about me?”

My aunt smiled, and responded, “I would love to know everything about you.”

Looking at my son, it struck me that he is at a unique age.  He’s at an age that he truly has people that know everything about him, and an age where that is still comforting thing.

Think about that, the only time in your life when there is someone that knows EVERYTHING about you is when you’re a kid.  Your parents know everything about you until about the time you start going to school, and spend a good chunk out of their sight each day.

It’s the only time in your life that anyone will know everything about you.

And that’s a very good thing.

Think about it, is there anyone that knows every single thing about you?  The closest is likely a spouse or partner…but even then, there is plenty they don’t know about you.  We don’t share every thought in our head or every twisted urge.

Those closest to us get to see and hear more of those, but still, there are somethings that we keep to ourselves.  I don’t want to know the favorite sexual positions of my parents.  Or what my friend likes to do with squirrels late at night.  Or the sick fantasies that my neighbor has about me in a unicorn costume.

Our minds are the only place left in the world where we can be free from all judgment and restraint that exists in society.  It’s the one place where no one else has access or can get access.  The real estate between your ears is sacred ground, and should be treated that way.

Enjoy the freedom that your mind allows, revel in the fact that it’s yours and yours alone….and get your freak on.  All rules are null and void in there, so go crazy.  You’ll be amazed at what you come up with when you let your mind wander free and clear.

My son though, after inhaling another noodle, took the chance to share everything about himself.

“I have super speed.  I’m stronger than anyone on earth.  And I have laser vision.”

He started into another noodle, so I took the moment to ask, “Is that everything about you?”

He inhaled a noodle and looked at me with his “Dad, you’re an idiot” face.

“No Dad, my weakness is fire.”

Ah, of course, fire…how could I forget.
