The Life and Times of a Canadian Dad
Taking Time To Enjoy Life’s Moments
Taking Time To Enjoy Life’s Moments

Although there was an amazing display of skating taking place on the ice surface right in front of me, I couldn’t take my eyes off my little girl, standing there in her princess outfit, her eyes all aglow as she waved goodbye to Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the cast of the Disney on […]

Pride
Pride

I can remember thinking during his third karate class, that this was something that wasn’t going to last. He didn’t seem overly interested in it and was too scared to do a few of the tasks assigned. They offered 5 free classes and he insisted that he wanted to keep doing it, so we let […]

The Line Between Being a Dad and a Sports Fan
The Line Between Being a Dad and a Sports Fan

I often wondered how it was that my father, a big time hockey fan, always managed to keep his cool even when his favourite team was being embarrassed on a nightly basis. In my early teens I can remember how mad I would get when things didn’t go my team’s way and that passion continued […]

No Sleep Makes Daddy A Something, Something…
No Sleep Makes Daddy A Something, Something…

Alright, I’m not sure I can keep this bottled up anymore. I am a human being and I need sleep. Not a couple hours here or there, but a whole night’s sleep! Since my first child was born, four and a half years ago, I think I have had about 20 good sleeps. I’m sure […]

The Art of the “Cheese” Face
The Art of the “Cheese” Face

It’s like a child’s right of passage. Before you can flash that beautiful eye batting, world stopping smile, you have to first go through the awkward, sometimes constipated looking “Cheese” Face. To most, it looks like you are the jerk parent, who took a picture of your child while they were experiencing some serious pain. […]

I Wrote You A Letter…
I Wrote You A Letter…

Imagine my surprise the other day, when my wife proclaimed out of nowhere, “I Wrote You A Letter”. I had just come off a grueling set of overnight shifts at work and for some reason, this news was exciting to me. My wife and I don’t usually exchange love letters so this was a nice […]

Yes Way, Jose!
Yes Way, Jose!

Jose Canseco, for lack of a better word, is an ass. Everybody knows the stories of how he used performance enhancing drugs and then also wrote a book, selling his former teammates down the river. The drugs part was an error in judgement, that he owned up to, and would have faded with time. The […]

I Hate Garage Sales
I Hate Garage Sales

Yeah, I know, Hate is a strong word. We are taught as children that it is a word that we are never to use, along with fat, ugly and stupid. Well, I don’t care about all that now because I have to tell you sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, that I Hate Garage […]

My Daughter Is A Sleep Ninja
My Daughter Is A Sleep Ninja

My daughter is turning 2 years old this week and recently went from her crib to a “Big Girl Bed”. My wife and I tried to make the transition as easy as possible. We made sure she had a step stool to get into the bed, a night light so she wouldn’t be scared and […]

My Son Is Petrified Of People In Costumes…And Here’s Why!
My Son Is Petrified Of People In Costumes…And Here’s Why!

To me, it started while we were at an Ottawa Senators hockey game and their mascot, SpartaCat, came by to give my son a high five. I’ve never seen a kid jump into a parent’s arms so quickly! I laughed it off and told the cat to beat it! Besides, I am a Canadiens’ fan […]

Was I Not Supposed To Watch The Hunger Games?
Was I Not Supposed To Watch The Hunger Games?

It never occurred to me as I sat down in my seat for The Hunger Games at midnight last night, that they did not make this movie for my demographic. My demographic, as it were, is old man. I’m 33. No, that realization came after I checked my email the day after but we’ll get […]

I'd like to congratulate Chris Read and his team, The Fear Boners, (origin of name...unclear) for his first place finish in the inaugural Life of Dad fantasy football league. Dan Lazarz finished last out of sixteen teams: sad. This one's for Trent! :D For The Captain! Now you don't have to picture my interpretive dance, you can just look at the actual photo. With 490 women and 10 dudes, I had to do something to stand out! Obviously, this was my favorite GPK! Hey Guys, It's urgent that I wear this around, right???
