Happy Father’s Day! Over the past 30 Days, Life of Dad has featured a different great dad each day from around the world. Why not finish this campaign with two of the most popular Dad bloggers out there…
In a continuation of sorts from yesterday’s feature today we are happy to have Charlie Capen, who is the other half of the Dads from How To Be A Dad! Charlie is an actor, musician, blogger and most importantly, he is father to 2.5 year old Finnegan. On top of being a notorious tweeter and insomniac, Charlie’s videos and quips always make us laugh! Make sure to check out Charlie and Andy in their new gig over at Babble Voices for their new feature called Night Of The Living Dads.
I really became a father when… I got my wife pregnant. I don’t think I’ve ever felt more masculine and fatherly than the moment I conceived my son.
My kids makes me laugh when… When my son farts, looks at me and then laughs, I start laughing and can’t stop. I’ve taught him well.
Favorite daddy cocktail once the kids crash? Hmmm…. Wine O’Clock? Yeah, I think Andy would agree with me. Otherwise, energy drinks and coffee are my friends.
Dream date night with your lady, where would you go? What’s a date?
What is the hardest thing about fatherhood? I think I underestimated the sleep deprivation and marathon-like activity it takes to keep up with everything. No one can really describe it or fully prepare you, but I made things worse before Finn was born by working like a dog.
What’s in your man cave? That is my dream, my goal, my dying wish: to have a man cave. When I get one, I’ll let you know.
How many hours of sleep each night? Can people get negative hours of sleep? As one reader put it, we should called “elastic dads” because we stretch ourselves so thin.
What food that your kids eat do you like the most? My son is quite possibly the pickiest eater on the planet. He likes hummus, broccoli soup and sometimes chicken. Only recently have we been able to hypnotize him into eating a hamburger and grilled cheese. It’s insane. It’s like I don’t even know who he is anymore.
How has fatherhood changed in the past 20 years? Fatherhood has definitely evolved from the stoic, perfect father icon into something new but I’m not entirely we all know exactly what it is yet. I don’t it has been settled, but maybe that’s a good thing? I think self-definition is much more the operative word with fatherhood. I see so many more kinds of fathers and that is pretty great thing to behold. But it also makes it harder to market to us because we’ve become more engaged and operational in the parenting space that the cliches don’t quite hold even though there are lots of universal themes still at work. But overall, I’d say we’re more involved and interested in being a part of our kids’ lives. It’s such an amazing adventure.
Dream family vacation? Oh, well, simply put: getting the hell out of dodge, nature and relaxation, and definitely some good sleep. I can dream, can’t I?
