On each of the 30 days leading up to Father’s Day, Life of Dad will feature a different great dad from around the world.
Chuck Gamble is today’s featured dad. Chuck is a father to two (Sophia -12, Grace -10), as well as being incredibly experienced in design, illustration, and animation. Once Chuck had kids, he put his artistic background to work (with the help of his daughters), and created a kids app called Mixamajig, which is now a top pick by O’Reilly Media! Before you go to download the app, here is Chuck’s interview…
I really became a father when… I could hear a tiny heartbeat during an ultrasound! It became very real for me and I knew we had something wonderful and magical.
My kids makes me laugh when… they put on performances and dance shows for us! We get these a couple times a month after many hours of planning and practice. Who knew it took 8 hours of rehearsals to synchronize jumping jacks?
Favorite daddy cocktail once the kids crash? I like to sit down with a Leinenkugel’s Classic Amber – brewed in my old home town of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin!
Dream date night with your lady, where would you go? I think we would do anything to get out on the town. Hit a comedy club, theatre or maybe just go catch a movie… something without cute animals or wizards.
What is the hardest thing about fatherhood? The most difficult thing about fatherhood right now is finding the energy to spend time with the kids. They are my greatest joy, but whew, do they poop me out after I’ve already spent 10 hours at work!
What’s in your man cave? Comic books and records! Been reading comics and buying music since I was in diapers. Of course I wore diapers until I was 21 so not as long ago as you may think.
How many hours of sleep each night? I’m getting about 5 a night now. 7 on weekends!
What food that your kids eat do you like the most? The girls have a gluten allergy so in the spirit of solidarity I have altered my diet as well. Along that path we’ve found many options for wheat… some bad, some horrible, some GREAT! Our fav now is a gluten-free pizza from a local place that makes the crust with nuts, zucchini, and quinoa. It’s so good I order it even when eating alone!
How has fatherhood changed in the last 20 years? I think more fathers take part in the lives of their kids and aren’t as obsessed with careers. Life of Dad helps support that! Go dads!
Dream family vacation? We’d hit Hawaii! Snorkeling, hiking, eating poi!
