On each of the 30 days leading up to Father’s Day, Life of Dad will feature a different great dad from around the world.

Today we feature Joey Donovan Guido, father to two (Max-8, Joss-6), founder of Daddy Brain, as well as a motivational speaker and teacher for webinars/workshops focusing on how to become a better dad.  Joey also hosts a radio show, and his Father’s Day edition can be heard this Monday, June 18th, at 7PM CDT.  Click here to listen on Monday.  But first…Joey’s interview…

I really became a father when… I found out we were pregnant with Max.  I began to change immediately.  I even had sympathy pain and sympathy weight gain!

My kids makes me laugh when…  They tell silly jokes, or imitate characters from their favorite movies – like one of the Weasley’s from Harry Potter.  Also, sometimes when Joss sneezes, a half a pound of snot flies out of his nose.  That’s pretty funny, and gross too.

Favorite daddy cocktail once the kids crash?  Dunkin’ Donuts French Vanilla Coffee and an organic pop tart (frosted apple).

Dream date night with your lady, where would you go?  Somewhere near the Montauk Lighthouse in New York (that’s where we got married). This date would also include staying at the little condo we rented out there.  Just me and my wife.  Talking, smiling, holding hands … and maybe some nookie.

What is the hardest thing about fatherhood?   Trying to find some sort of balance between family, self, work and building a better future. I struggle with this a lot.

What’s in your man cave?  I don’t have a man cave.  If I did, there would be a fluffy pillow and soft blanket.  I actually find the idea of a man cave a bit insulting as a modern-day dad.  It implies that we’re simple minded like Neanderthals.

How many hours of sleep each night?  Not enough. Not even close.

What food that your kids eat do you like the most?   Pizza. Especially when it’s from New York.

How has fatherhood changed in the last 20 years?   Tremendously. I see us stepping more and more into a place of equal parenting.  This not only benefits our kids, but also our wives who deserve to have a partner they can depend on for more than a paycheck.

Yet somehow we’re still often perceived as second-class parents by the media, society, and even within our own families.  Divorced dads have it really bad, with little or no respect shown to them by the court system.  I have spoken with dozens of dads who were in tears because they miss their kids so much.

Dream family vacation?   Disney and Universal.
