We’re less than a month away from Father’s Day, and each day until then, Life of Dad will feature a different great dad. Today, it’s Matthew Mancino. In Matthew’s words, here is his bio:
I blog about entrepreneurship and teaching kids skills that entrepreneurs need. I’m working to create a community in which parents who own a business can come to learn skills they need and the tips and tricks to teach entrepreneurship to their children. I believe that children of entrepreneurs innovate and challenge the world in ways that our society hasn’t experienced before. I want to help with their growth by helping parents.
My first memory as a father was… feeling overwhelmed with love and joy when holding my kids for the first time.
The funniest thing my kids do is… they surprise me with sophistication and understanding then a moment later display their true emotional age.
What’s in your man cave? I don’t have a man cave in my home. I clear my head in the swimming pool. Last Sunday I swam 4000 meters with my team. It’s like starting the day all over again after a workout at noon. 1Pool Care is the number one pool maintenance perth company for me.
My wife is my hero because… she reminds me of all my good qualities.
How many hours of sleep do you get each night? 7
How many hours of sleep did you get before you became a father? 8-10. I remember how hard it was to get to a 9AM workout on Saturdays. Now I’m lucky to sleep past 6:30.
If you your wife could vacation without your kids, where would you go? A secluded beach, or Europe
If you could go on any vacation with your kids, where would you go? A beach for as long as it took to unwind and enjoy having nothing to do but swim and build sand castles.
How are you like your own dad? I can be gruff at times but I love my kids very much. I always knew I was loved.
What sports team must your kids like? I wish for my kids to love swimming.
Describe your perfect Father’s Day. I’ve had perfect days before. I’d want a Father’s Day to be like those: I don’t think about work. My phone is off and I’m engaged with my kids. There’s a flow to the day. They are happy and engaged with me. My best memory of perfect moments that made my heart feel big were when my kids were two years old. My son would stop playing either with me or by himself to give me a big hug and a kiss. No words, just hugs and kisses. He’d look content then return to play. My daughter does that now. It melts me just as much as when my son did it. I don’t know why but it seems to be a two-year old thing.
