001 In the month leading up to Father’s Day, we’re featuring a different great dad every day.  Today, it’s my dad, Art Eddy Jr.

If you have read my article “The SAHD Wingman” you know how great of father my dad is to me and my daughters. I have many great memories of my dad and I watching football, playing basketball, or talking about comic books. My dad worked in the medical device industry and has accomplished a lot in that field. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, and the Association of Clinical Chemistry. He is a co-inventor of six patented medical devices.

Yet if you talk to him his great moments in life is when he is with his family. We have been through some tough times as a family since my mother passed away recently from her bout with breast cancer. While my mother was ill, my dad was by her side and always taking care of her.

Since my mother passed away my dad has volunteered his time to work with hospitals and hospice programs. He takes Communion to the home bound. I am really proud of the work that he is doing in his community.

I hope he knows that he is still teaching me life lessons even though I have “grown up” and have a family of my own. I was blessed to have a great mother and still blessed to have my dad here. He is known as BeBop to my daughters and he spoils them. He even tries to get them to have cupcakes for breakfast. (An inside joke that my family has about my dad’s sweet tooth.) The girls haven’t had one yet for breakfast, but I am guessing my dad will sneak it by me in the future.

Now here are his answers to the Life of Dad questions on fatherhood.

My first memory as a father is…. being in the delivery room for the birth of my first child. (I was also there for my next two children as well.)

The funniest thing my children do is…. when they were in their highchairs trying to eat Spaghettios with their hands.

What’s in your man cave?  Stacks of books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard, Iam Fleming and others, collected hard cover volumes of Marvel and DC super heroes, many by Jack Kirby, lots of Beatle collectibles, Star Trek collectibles, and a large collection of DVDs including Star Trek, Star Wars, superhero movies, and James Bond.

If you could go on any vacation with your kids, where would you go? First choice would be Disney World in Florida; second choice would be Hawaii.

What’s your favorite meal to cook for your kids? Since I’m not a cook, this is a tough one. I guess it would be cheeseburgers and french fries.

What sports team must your kids like? The San Francisco 49ers.

What sports team can your kids never like? The Dallas Cowboys.

Describe your perfect Father’s Day. This is going back to before my kids had grown up and moved out. A nice sunny day and you would take the family to a park for a picnic with plenty of sports equipment for fun after the meal.

Happy Father’s Day Dad! I love ya!
