With just a few days left until Father’s Day, we continue to feature a great dad every day. Today, it’s Irish Seanie Monaghan, an undefeated light heavyweight boxer from Long Beach, NY. Monaghan will open the October 12th HBO fight night in Las Vegas. Here is Monaghan’s bio and interview in his own words:
I’m a professional boxer ranked 11th in the world and a stay-at-home dad. I train early in the morning, come home and enjoy the day with my wife and son, then I put him down for a nap and go back to the gym. The best part of my career is the amount of time it allows me to spend with my family.
My first memory as a father was… when my son was first born and the nurse told us he’s a boy, my wife and i screamed with joy.
The funniest thing my son does is… Sings twinkle twinkle little star in heavy metal voice.
What’s in your man cave? My boxing gym is my man cave.
My wife is my hero because… watching her deliver that baby was intense!
How many hours of sleep do you get each night? We were blessed with a great sleeper so we all get around 7 or 8 hours a night.
How many hours of sleep did you get before you became a father? About the same, the only difference is everything is on a tight schedule now, no more sleeping in.
What did you get your baby’s Mama for Mother’s Day? A purse and new plants for the garden, we lost everything in Hurricane Sandy.
If you your wife could vacation without your kids, where would you go? Some beach anywhere, but we wouldn’t want to go anywhere without him though, he’s been all over with us already and he’s a great traveler.
If you could go on any vacation with your kids, where would you go? Disney, he loves Mickey.
What’s your favorite meal? I’m a dessert guy, the best thing I’ve ever had was a bannoffee.
What’s your favorite meal to cook for your kids? Pancakes because he never finishes the whole thing, and then I take over.
How are you like your own dad? Fun and physical and I can communicate with babies with baby talk.
My most traumatic parenting experience was when… My son fell and needed stitches from a plastic surgeon on his eyebrow.
What sports team must your kids like? Yankees
What sports team can your kids never like? Boston or New England anything
If fatherhood was a beer, which type of beer would it be and why? Some kind of beer with caffeine in it that won’t let you sleep.
Describe your perfect Father’s Day. A nice sunny day on the beach watching my wife and son having fun, followed by a BBQ.
