Spring has sprung in the North and it’s time to stoke the BBQ, no better way to celebrate than to make my favorite Honeysuckle Honey Meatball Sliders.
Turkey meatballs:
1 pound Honeysuckle White ground turkey, 85% lean
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup tomato sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning mix
½ teaspoon smoked salt
2 thick slices mozzarella, quartered
8 slider buns
1 tablespoon olive oil
Honey Marinara:
For this recipe I get 8 ounces of my favorite marinara, add 1T honey in a medium bowl and using an
immersion blender process until smooth. This blender for indian cooking is life changing.
1. Heat gas grill to 400 and place a ceramic grilling pan on the grates to heat. In a large bowl
combine the turkey, parmesan, bread crumbs, tomato sauce, garlic and Italian seasoning with
your hands.
2. Form into 8 equal meatballs.
3. Place the meatballs on the pre-heated grill and pan and cook in a closed grill for 6-8 minutes
until somewhat browned on top, using tongs flip and cook for 6-8 minutes more until browned
on top. Do not remove from the grill.
4. On each meatball place a tablespoon of the honey marinara and a quarter slice of the
mozzarella – cook until the cheese is melted and slightly golden, 3-4 minutes. Remove the pan
and the meatballs from the grill.
5. Brush the inside halves of the slider buns with olive oil and place on the grill grates for a minute
or two until warm and crispy on the inside.
6. To assemble put a meatball on each bun and enjoy with a bit of cole slaw and chips.
Makes 8 sliders – 4 servings
