On each of the 30 days leading up to Father’s Day, Life of Dad will feature a different incredible father from around the world.

Today’s featured dad is Bruce Sallan, the mastermind behind “A Dad’s Point of View.”  Bruce is a devoted husband, incredible father, and one of the leading advocates in the parenting community.  In addition to being an author, radio show host, and columnist, Bruce financially supports a reading club in Ghana.  Bruce is an impressive, all-around great guy, and we were excited to have him as part of this campaign.  Here is Bruce’s interview…

I really became a father when… I finally found a woman willing to marry me! Lol…it took a while to settle and find the right woman, or so I thought at the time. My first son was born 4 days after my 40th birthday!

My kids make me laugh when… they make fun of me!

Favorite daddy cocktail once the kids crash?  Hmmm, let me think…beer, Beer, and BEER! Like local micro-brews!

Dream date night with your lady, where would you go?  Heli-ski during the day. Great bottle of wine, after dinner in the evening at the lodge in the middle of NOWHERE, and fall into each other’s arms in exhaustion after. We made sure to buy low carb wine that is perfect for us as we are trying to lower our carb intake, we want to be healthier…WHICH we just did last month and it’s documented in this column, with photos and videos: http://www.brucesallan.com/2012/04/07/how-to-ski-out-of-this-world/

What is the hardest thing about fatherhood?  The fears that your kids will take a wrong and potentially dangerous or, worse, fatal path – will they make the right choices in spite of MY best efforts?

What’s in your man cave?  Hmmm, let me think…beer, Beer, and BEER!

How many hours of sleep each night?  6-8 hours with the occasional nap when I’m going so fast, so hard, so much!

What food that your son eats do you like the most?  I’ve just gone Vegan so we’re now on different eating paths, but we’ve had a pizza joint that we’ve gone to ever since they were little boys and I’d gone to for decades so I suppose it would be Villa Italian in Culver City!

How has fatherhood changed in the last 20 years?  Fathers are now there more and, finally, the media is starting to treat dads with a little respect!

Dream family vacation?  I’m happy to say, we’ve had many but my forthcoming father-son trip – a road trip – with Arnie, my oldest portends to be incredible. We’re driving from Los Angeles to Boston, sponsored by FORD in a Flex. Details are still being worked out, but our preliminary itinerary includes stops in Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moab, Denver, Des Moines, Chicago, Detroit/Cleveland and visits to the FORD factory and the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame, Niagara Falls, Cooperstown and a visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and on to Boston. He’s been accepted to the Berklee College of Music – another cool story!
