On each of the 30 days leading up to Father’s Day, Life of Dad will feature a different great dad from around the world.

Today we meet Adam Dolgin, founder of a great website, Fodder 4 Fathers, as well an incredible community on Facebook.  Adam is a devoted husband and father (daughter, D.D. – 2), with their second baby on the way!  Here is our interview with one of the fastest growing voices in the parenting community, Adam Dolgin…

I really became a father when… I found myself alone in the hospital room with a screaming day old baby and no one to show me how to change a diaper or feed her. I could have just ran her to the desk and had a nurse do it, but I just dug in and realized this was as much my job as it was my wife’s, so I just got it done.

My daughter makes me laugh when… she opens her mouth. She has an extensive vocabulary at two years of age and a great sense of humor. She can say literally anything at any time.

Favorite daddy cocktail when the kids crash… DQ Banana Split Blizzard… I gave up drinking when I had a kid… except at weddings, wakes and whenever the Leafs are in the playoffs (which is rare).

Dream date night with your lady, where would you go?  Baton Rouge and a movie. It sounds lame, but when you don’t get to do it very often, it’s something you dream about. Ribs, theater popcorn, a big screen and the woman that you love… How can you go wrong?

What is the hardest thing about fatherhood?  Actually, and don’t shoot me for this, but I find fatherhood extremely easy with just the one, easy-going kid.  She’s not the handful other parents seem to have.  She’s a joy, not a burden in any way. (I do miss Sunday morning sleep-ins though. Those were hard to give up).

What’s in your man cave?  My “man cave” is more a time of day than an area in my house. When everyone else is asleep, I’ll find a movie on the tube for background noise, and use the time to write. My man cave is mostly in my head. I watch most of my sports on PVR and highlight shows, but I’m so busy working on so many things that I barely even bother anymore. I enjoy writing and choose it over all other past times. Can’t say I don’t miss late night Hockey Seasons on the X-Box though….

How many hours of sleep each night?  5, but that’s by choice. I do my best work when the rest of the world is asleep. My daughter sleeps a full 12 hours every night and has since she was 4-months-old (she wakes up occasionally but puts herself back to sleep).

What food that your kids eat do you like the most?  Baby Bon Bell Cheese, Craisins, Flavored Apple Sauce, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

How has fatherhood changed in the last 20 years?  It hasn’t changed as much as technology has in the last five years, but it’s changed enough for me to remember when Tony Masseli was the only stay-at-home-dad I knew…
