On each of the 30 days leading up to Father’s Day, Life of Dad will feature a different great dad from around the world.
Today we feature Bobb Allen, a stay at home dad, to a awesome 1 year old, named Kayden. The Allens live in Ottawa, Canada, and Bobb is the founder of a great daddy blog, All For My Boy. Now, it’s time for his interview…
I really became a father when… At first thought, I would have said the day I saw him on the first ultrasound, because that was the day it truly sunk in. However after taking a few days to digest these questions, I would say more so the day I took over the parental leave and my journey as a Stay At Home Dad began. You see although, I was an involved father from the start it was then that I realized that there was still WAY more that I could have done to help out.
My kid make me laugh when… As of late, I am able to crawl around chasing him, while he runs away in hysteria, and when I catch him, he lets out the biggest, deepest belly laugh – gets me every time..
Favorite daddy cocktail when the kids crash… Rye & Coke – preferably “Forty Creek”
Dream date night with your lady, where would you go? Probably a spa at a quiet resort… we could both use some R&R.
What is the hardest thing about fatherhood? Trying to be the “BEST” Dad! There comes a point when you realize that we all will make mistakes. Just doing the best you can, and taking on fatherhood with a smile and pride, will eventually land you the grand prize of your child being proud of you for who are.
What’s in your man cave? My cave is yet to be constructed…..But I have big plans for when I find the space.
How many hours of sleep each night? LOL…..There is no sleep for new parents.
How has fatherhood changed in the last 20 years? There was definitely a time when, mothers ran the house, and fathers earned a pay check – but this is changing with leaps and bounds. Parenting has become more of a shared role in most households. I never had the full parenting spectrum as a child, but I see more involved parents, from both sides.
Dream family vacation? I am a big kid at heart, and have dreamed for years about taking my little one to DISNEY WORLD. I am now just waiting for the right age to make the trip. Personally I have been three times, But with a child – I can only imagine the excitement.
