On each of the 30 days leading up to Father’s Day, Life of Dad will feature a different great dad from around the world.

Today we feature Whit Honea, who has been blogging professionally for over five years and has contributed to most of the popular parenting sites on the internet (Babble, BabyCenter, The Stir, Parentables, Cozi, Savvy Source, and DadCentric) as well as The Disney Blog, MamaPop, and a number of AOL websites.  He has written award-winning works of fiction, poetry, and some fairly lewd bathroom graffiti.  He lives in L.A. with his wife, two boys, and too many pets. He spends his free time trying to make a buck in the wonderful world of entertainment (not adult).

I really became a father when… I tore the skin off my fingers trying to install our pre-latch car seat. It was ridiculous. I had it in the car for a month before our first son was born, just in case, and I stopped by the fire station twice to have them verify that it was in safely. I was really worried it.

My kids makes me laugh…  My boys are very funny, although most of their punchlines include some sort of body function. The youngest is really quick with the comebacks, which will either serve him greatly or cause him a lot of trouble — it probably depends on how fast he can flash the dimples.

Favorite daddy cocktail once the kids crash?  I’m a bourbon guy. Maker’s Mark, Basil Hayden’s, Blanton’s — any possessive whiskey will do. Two ice cubes, three fingers. Repeat.

Dream date night with your lady, where would you go?  A nice dinner, some drinks and live jazz. A hotel room within walking distance is a nice touch.

What is the hardest thing about fatherhood?  It’s all hard, but it’s also fun, or at least rewarding. I don’t have any complaints. Yet.

What’s in your man cave?  The Manmobile, a super computer, and all of the Manman costumes that I’ve worn over the years.  Proprietary stuff.  The Boys Wonder keep their crap in there, too.

How many hours of sleep each night?  Whatever it is it is never enough. Never.

What food that your kids eat do you like the most?  My kids eat meat and I don’t.  Sometimes a cheeseburger looks pretty damn good.

How has fatherhood changed in the last 20 years?   We blog about it.

Dream family vacation?  My wife and I really want to take the kids everywhere, but we’re also good with a week at Walt Disney World.  The boys haven’t been out of the U.S., and everyone needs to do that. I’d like to get them to Europe sometime in the next couple of years. South America is on the list, too.

Be sure to go and check out Whit’s brilliant writing at Dad Centric and his Dadding at Babble blog.  Also, follow Whit on Facebook and Twitter!
