Father’s Day was yesterday, and we featured 30 Dads in 30 Days leading up until then. Well, we have some fantastic leftovers for you. And you know how sometimes leftovers can be better than the actual dinner…
Today we feature Jack Steiner. The Jack B. is a writer and author of over 39 unpublished books and three screen plays. A former athlete and would be superhero, he still fights for truth, justice, and the American Way. Though he may look like a grown man, don’t fool yourself, he is still a boy at heart. When he is not engaged in Walter Mitty like fantasies he is a husband, father and friend and blogs at Random Thoughts, er, TheJackB. Now, on to Jack’s interview…
I really became a father when… There isn’t just one moment but what sticks out is a time when my son was 13 months old. He got sick and had to be hospitalized. I remember when they put the IV in him I began to understand that there was a different sort of fear.
I am like a million other men and have had my share of moments where I got myself in trouble and was nervous, but you really don’t begin to understand what true fear is until your child’s well-being is in danger.
Fortunately it all worked out just fine, but there was a moment…
My kids makes me laugh when… I love it when my children make each other laugh. Sometimes they crack each other up and I can’t help but join in. There is pure joy in those moments.
Favorite daddy cocktail once the kids crash? Everclear or Rubbing Alcohol. Something that puts hair on your chest. Actually I don’t drink very often any more but a good single malt is always nice.
Dream date night with your lady, where would you go? Vegas- go out for a great meal, see a show and then…
What is the hardest thing about fatherhood? Trying to find balance between being responsible and taking care of yourself. When you become a father you agree to subjugate your own desires and some of your dreams. That is not always a bad thing, but sometimes it is hard to reconcile that you may have to wait quite a long time before you can go after some of them again.
What’s in your man cave? Books, electronics, weights and a bed.
How many hours of sleep each night? I get between 4-5 but am trying to pump that back up to six.
What food that your kids eat do you like the most? Pizza and or hamburgers. My kids eat a lot of other things but I love those two. They are comfort foods that just make me happy.
How has fatherhood changed in the past 20 years? I am not really sure how to answer that question. My father was always involved in my life and that of my sisters so what I do isn’t any different than what I experienced growing up.
Dream family vacation? If I had the cash I’d take us around the world and alternate between touring and spending time just hanging out as a family.
