Someone “shouted” the other day asking for recommendations for iPad apps. I tapped a response, but wanted to elaborate a little to help out my brothers.

I have quite a few educational, fun, and kid-friendly apps on my iPad, but there is one that beats them all! It is fun, interactive, educational, entertaining, and totally awesome!

What is it, you say?

“Nighty Night: The Bedtime Book” by Shape Minds and Moving Images

Those of you with older kids, you might want to skip the rest because this app is for toddlers through early school-age kids.

The basic premise of the app is that it is an interactive bedtime story. You are narrated, by a pleasant British accented man’s voice, through a farmhouse full of your kid’s favorite animals. The goal is for your child to click on each room in the farmhouse and turn off each light to put the animals to sleep. Each animal performs 3-4 different actions, when you touch them, prior to going to bed. They all make their animal sound and do something silly. Once all of the animals are in bed and asleep, the narrator directs the child’s attention to a house with a child that needs to go to bed. Then the light goes out and the story ends.

The app has bedtime style music playing. The original purchase of $2.99 comes with 7 animals, you can “in-app purchase” 3 more animals for $.99. It also has different languages, including Spanish, French, German, and Chinese.

What better app could a dad have than one that the kid loves, has animals, and encourages the kids to go to bed? It is very user-friendly, easy enough for a toddler to use with daddy’s help. The animation is great and the animal actions and sounds are very realistic. My son is almost 3 and he wants to “do nighty night” almost every night before bed.

I hope that this helps some of you with getting the kids in bed in a timely manner! If you have an iPad, you should buy this app! If you don’t have an iPad, go buy one and then buy this app!

P.S. The makers of this app also have 2 other interactive apps, both of which are great too! Check out “Pete and the Secret of Flying” and “Little Fox Music Box”.
