Captain’s Log. Daddy Chronicles. Diaper Date 2109. So there are certain “rites of passage” that I have been warned of by fathers wise to the game. Today marks one of those days.

The Dance Recital.

Now The Captain is a bit of a performing arts fan as I was a Theater Major and am a director in my middle school drama program. But dance is a different beast. I don’t do choreography, but I appreciate it.

One thing The Captain realizes is that having a child in the show is a different experience than producing a show.

I am here for a two hour show and my daughter will be on stage for about 6 minutes.
But it will be worth it. Her teachers have been awesome. She loves the kids that she dances with and seems to have made multiple friends.
So what worries me? That she continues to like it. I say this somewhat tongue in cheek. What parent doesn’t want their kid to find her niche or to learn more about herself through an activity?

If I am being truthful, I’m worried about the future cost. This program has been reasonable, but not every program is. There are fees lingering in the corners of the future, but honestly – if she loves it it is worth it.

And so tonight I am going to sit back, relax and enjoy six minutes of pure bliss – whether she hits all her marks or hides in the corner. It is part of the learning curve for both her an me. Curtain opens in about 15 minutes. So for now…shhhh.
Captain out.
