Hopes and Aspirations
I want to do podcasting and blogging as a profession.
There. I said it. There it is. I admit it. Not ashamed.
Hello, my name is Ben, and I’m addicted to podcasting.
I have been talking about starting my own business for about a year now, but I’ve never quite been able to put my finger on exactly what I want to do. And now, after 5 months, starting 3 podcasts and a blog, I can perfectly picture myself right where I want to be. I see in my minds eye a small studio, with professional equipment. Microphones, soundboards, headphones and that little red sign hanging on the far wall that says “ON AIR”. Lord almighty I want that sign. Three or four wraparound office desks placed in a square so they each face eachother, to my left is Nicks desk (Poppin’ Bottles Dad-Cast), directly across from me is Ash’s desk (Brudders Podcast), and to my right is the desk for when special guests join us or if we add another co-host.
I can picture my day. Get up early, drop off Emma at daycare. Then to wawa for my coffee, a bagel, and a redbull for later. I get to the studio and plop down in my super comfy office chair, the only sound in the room is the whizzing from my computer starting up. A few minutes later one of my co-hosts arrives and it’s just down to hanging out and doing business. Catch up on the latest news, hit facebook and twitter with our constant stream of random thoughts. Listen to the latest episodes of our favorite podcasts (if we haven’t already). Talk to everybody we talk to and start getting a handle on the day. Polish up a blog post or two.
Then to recording. First a couple of pre-recorded ads that we can cut into the middle of the show, and then down to the show itself. Do an hour, maybe more.
Special guest?
Yes please.
Edit in the theme music, ads, and closing music with professional editing servoces. Then post it.
And when we’re not in the studio, we’re at conventions and events. Doing live podcasts on the spot, or gathering stories to share on the show later. Even hosting our own events, fundraisers, you name it. Throw a party every once in a while for all our fans and friends.
After posting the show, keep an eye out for feedback.
Pack up, pick up Emma, go home, make dinner, go to sleep.
Wake up, start again.
This is my dream job.
You’re all welcome to come with.
