I have a secret.
I haven’t told anyone yet. You might be the first person reading this so congratulations on being the first to know.
I have been stuck in the 1980’s for a few months now. I am not sure what happened. Recently I have been wearing some Air Jordan I’s with a Empire Strikes Back T-shirt. I was eating Ellio’s Pizza with my friends. I was watching Tron a few days ago. My kids and I were playing with my Masters of the Universe toys.
Even above all of that I was playing all sorts of 8-bit video games. I was burning rubber in Excitebike. I was scoring touchdowns with Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl. I was moving up in the ranks of the boxing world in Punch-Out. I even ate a few blue ghosts as the iconic Pac-Man. Of course I made time to play The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros.
The only thing that was missing was a Members Only jacket. Well I wouldn’t say I was missing that. That fashion statement should be locked away in the 80s and the we should throw away that key.
It also might have been the book Ready Player One that I was reading thanks to the suggestion of my good friend, Patrick Quinn, but my friends let me tell you I have been stuck in the 80s for a few weeks now and I don’t mind it one bit.
It is like I have Mario’s warp whistle that would take you to places at the sound of a few notes. Thanks to the good folks at GameStop that warp whistle was in the form of the much sought after gaming system that was brought back to life by Nintendo. Of course I am talking about the NES Classic Edition.
Last year Nintendo introduced a smaller version the NES Entertainment System. It is packed with 30 classic and iconic games. Pretty much everyone that is in my age demographic was looking to score one of these nostalgic, time warping, gaming system. I mean just having the three Mario games would make anyone my age weak in the knees. We are talking about games that we grew up with. There were checkpoints to save a game. You had to sit down and finish it if you wanted to call yourself of champion of that game.
Not only did I benefit from getting a NES Classic, but so did my wife, kids and friends. All my friends and I were gathered around playing Tecmo Bowl and Contra. I gave my kids a history lesson on Mario, Pac-Man and Zelda. It was sweet! When the kids went to bed my wife and I started up the ol’ NES and played Super Mario Bros. 3.
Now it is your chance to get your own NES Classic. Just in time for Father’s Day, Patrick Quinn and I host a Facebook Live show on the Life of Dad Facebook page every Thursday called The Geek Show.
THIS THURSDAY we are letting you know how you can win an NES Classic courtesy of GameStop. The show will air on our Facebook page around 1 pm EST. Make sure you listen in on how you can win.
If you don’t win you can still get some cool gifts at GameStop. Some of the items you should check out are:
Tekken 7 for the PS4, XBox One
