It is safe to say that we all get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We are trying to check things off our do to list faster than other times of the year. There is excitement in shopping for family and friends. You hope that they will love the gifts you picked out for them.
When you peel back those layers and really study what the holidays are about we come to realize it is all about being thankful for what we have. It is time with family and friends. Being able to slow down. Taking time off from work and school and enjoying your family’s company.
One family just recently got an early Christmas present that can’t be purchased in any store. David Wainberg from a town in England called Hull was diagnosed with cancer seven months ago. He just received news that he is cancer free.
Seven months ago David went to the doctor’s office to get a check up on his sore throat. The doctor told him that he had cancer in this throat and neck. David started his chemotherapy treatments. As he was going through those treatments his friends and family were looking to raise money by shaving their heads for charity. All the proceeds went to the Macmillan Cancer Research Center. His family donated their hair to The Little Princess Trust as part of the fundraising.
As the family was supporting David he kept hoping that he would be cancer free by Christmas.
“I got the all-clear on Tuesday when I went to Castle Hill Hospital. I cannot put into words how fantastic everyone at the Queen’s Centre there has been. The support I have received has just been amazing.” David told local reporters. He and his family will be celebrating an extra special Christmas as they remember everything that they had to deal with earlier this year.
He continued, “I met a lot of people along the way who are also battling cancer who will be having a difficult time this Christmas, and I will be thinking of all of them.”
As you can imagine David and his family are overwhelmed with the news. David can’t put all of his emotions into words. He went on saying, “I have been pretty speechless since being told I was all clear.”
He and his girlfriend, Katie are looking to get married in 2019. Right now all he wants to do is celebrate Christmas with her and his three children.
David is looking to help others who are dealing with cancer. David says, “You have just got to try and be yourself. You are not the only person who has got to go through it, there is your family and friends too, so you need to stay positive and try and avoid going into a bit of spiral.”
