INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.
The Knux
Some Alt-Hip Hop that’s out there can be pretty good for a few songs, but after listening to a bunch it can come across as feeling forced. It’s almost as if they were sitting trying to dream up elements of disparate genres for days. Are there a ton of artists out there that get it right? Of course, you’ll find some gems and you won’t have to look too hard. Without King Fantastic, Dyme Def, Common Market and others like them, the Hip Hop landscape would be infinitely less interesting. But The Knux are one of my absolute favorites and it’s why I’m introducing them to you. The duo are multi instrumentalist brothers from New Orleans, who blend elements of rock, electronica and jazzy pop with hip hop beats and rhythms. Fantastic backing music and production aside, they are legitimately excellent rappers whose lyrics are a complex fusion of the mundane and profound that keep a solid balance of levity and depth without going too far in either direction. They should be an splendid addition to all of your Spotify playlists.

I’d like to thank Jaime for steering me in the wrong direction this week and having me do tons of listening to Insane Clown Posse in the hopes that I’d “Get it, it’ll just click”. Glad I went with my gut on this one and made it The Knux instead.
