SSSSHHH!

During Prohibition, the masses were forced underground into the speakeasy.  Hidden within the streets of the city, friends gathered where music played and drinks were poured…

Doubling down on malt & hops, Double Daddy raises the stakes.  With its good looks and no-limit style, DD takes the pot every time.

The Beer Guy Review: I love my wife.  This past Saturday, she was heading out to the store.  I told her on the way out, “Pick out a beer for me to review this week…your choice.”  I only specified that I wanted an American craft beer and in a bomber bottle.  She came back with a beer…but I had to wait until the next day, Father’s Day.  Oh, the torment!

So, on Father’s Day, I got to open my gift.  And I tell you, she came through with the Speakeasy Double Daddy Imperial IPA.  I had tried the brewery’s Big Daddy IPA before, but not this one.  If it was half as good as the IPA, I knew I’d enjoy the Double Daddy.  Also, sticking with the holiday theme, she got a beer with the name “Daddy” in it.  Get it?  Get it?  Good.

I had this sitting in the refrigerator to get cold.  The color was a hazy, cloudy, bright orange when poured into my trusty pint glass.  There was a frothy head on the beer after pouring that dissolved with time.  I didn’t detect a whole lot of hoppiness.  Rather, this one smelled just as it tasted: quite malty and somewhat bitter.  I am getting used to this taste in some IPA’s and Imperial IPA’s and I’m finding that it’s not too shabby.

One of the many things I love about beer is the unique & dynamic changes it can take by doing something quite simple, such as pouring your second pint an hour later at room temperature.  If you’ve read any of the previous The Beer Guy reviews, you know I like doing this.  And sure enough, after pouring the warmer ale, the color changed to more of a clearer amber.  Whereas the bitterness and maltiness ruled the day when served cold, I found the warmer version still quite flavorful, but more smooth and refined. Throughout it all, there was a sweetness of caramel that persisted.

As for The Beer Guy review, I give the Speakeasy Double Daddy Imperial IPA a:

As the song goes, “If you’re going to San Francisco, make sure to wear a flower in your hair”…and try the Speakeasy Double Daddy Imperial IPA too.  The Beer Gods are smiling with the Speakeasy Double Daddy Imperial IPA.  So is The Beer Guy.  I knew I would be smiling when presented with such a great Father’s Day gift.  I’m starting to appreciate the maltiness of the IIPA more and more, but The Beer Guy’s preference is still to have some elements of hoppiness.  With that being said, this beer is still quite good.  What a great Father’s Day gift from Mrs. The Beer Guy.  She’s the best wife, and I love her a lot.  Hey fellow Dads, try out the same thing: ask your wife to pick out a beer at the store for you.  See what she comes back with.  Then, share it with The Beer Guy.

Happy belated Father’s Day to you all.  I hope you enjoyed it.  Cheers!
