It’s always been my belief that the greatest gift a Dad can give his children is to love their Mom……….
At a time when over 50% of marriages end in divorce this concept is understandably tough for a lot of Dads to grasp, but it has always worked for me.
Thirty eight years ago today in my beautiful hometown & our children’s hometown of Pompton Plains, NJ my dear Andrea & I expressed our love for each other when we said, “I do” at the altar of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. A reception followed in my parent’s home.
Like all couples we have faced unknowns & challenges from time to time raising four children. We’re very familiar with the roller coaster like ups & downs, ton of drama & judgments all parents have to deal with when others tell us how to raise our children. It always amazes me to see how so much of this drama, emotional stress, & pain is brought on by & dragged out by family members. & others who have a need to be heard.
Through the years we have taken one step at a time together, never losing sight of the good we saw in each other on our wedding day.
To paraphrase the Serenity Prayer, we changed the things that could be changed; we accepted the things we couldn’t change & prayed daily for the wisdom to know the difference. Whenever we started to slip into the rut of suffering from self pity we changed course immediately, never held grudges, counted our blessings & experienced peace.
We never had the need to “Keep up with the Jones,” we’ve always enjoyed the simple things in life & placed all of our concerns in God’s hands.
The result…………We have been blessed with a special love for 38 years, enjoyed every day of raising our four incredibly wonderful children, & now cherish every moment we have with our six & soon to be seven grand babies age five & under.
Now we pray for the continued good health in years to come so we can continue to receive the blessing of watching our family grow..
Happy Anniversary Honey!
