Warm pro-pro salad
This recipe is quick, simple, requires almost zero prep time and is absolutely fantastic for entertaining. Whether it’s a Netflix and chill, cards against humanity night, or just something quick to put on the table to share with every one as an alternative starter, this recipe will make even the most novice oven operators look good, feel more confident and realize that the only thing to fear in the kitchen are the dishes. So, let’s get cracking it’s time to make you “the daddy of the kitchen”.
What’s in it?
Bread – pick something crusty, fresh, and large enough to stuff and share. I normally choose a wider bread as it supports the stuffing without breaking better. You can also use some crusty kaiser rolls for single-servings.
Cheese – I normally go with provolone. It’s a rich, creamy taste and isn’t over-powering for the other ingredients. You can go with the pre-sliced or just a wedge and grate it yourself. I personally opt for the pre-sliced, as you can literally just tear it and you’re good to go. You will also need something to sprinkle over the top to finish the dish off. I personally like to use a tex-mex blend for this or a nice marbled cheese I just grate myself.
Prosciutto – or any sliced meat, I personally pick the prosciutto since it’s salty undertones really make the flavours pop in this recipe.
Tomatoes – again, free choice on type and size but to really take it to the next step I choose cherry tomatoes. They’re the ones to watch for!
Spinach – fresh is key. This is the salad to your pro-pro salad.
Top it all off with your choice of seasoning. Personally I go for salt, pepper, basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
What’s next?
- So, this is where you will see what I’m talking about. Zero prep time, zero hassle.
- Grab your loaf of bread and tear out the centre and rip apart in medium sized chunks, putting all the torn bread into a bowl at the side.
- Tear your Prosciutto and provolone into small chunks and add to your bowl.
- Spinach. Remove the stems and tear. Add into bowl.
- Slice tomatoes in half if they are cherry tomatoes. If you’re working with something larger then cut into small chunks.
- Get your hands in the bowl and really mix those ingredients up.
- Add your mixture to your hollowed-out bread loaf.
- Sprinkle with cheese over the top.
- Add your seasoning and drizzle with oil and balsamic vinegar if you have it
- Put it on a baking tray and bake on a medium heat for around 15 minutes or until the cheese has melted on top.
- Tear, share and enjoy! And remember, you’re the daddy!
So there it is possibly one of the most simplistic rustic recipe’s but a great sharing dish. Follow for more at www.facebook.com/dadsinthekitchen. For more dish’s and exciting recipes.
